Objectives of the Course |
The purpose of this course is to teach to the students what GIS is, in which application areas can be used, and especially what application areas in geology are. For these purposes, it is aimed to be learn a GIS software, digitizing and production of a intelligent map. |

Course Contents |
An overview to information systems. Spatial and non-spatial information systems. Geographical ınformation systems; descriptions and application areas. Data models. Database. Topological data structures and topology concept. Database creation in GIS. Inspection of data quality. Spatial analysis, querries, buffer analysis and other spatial analysis in GIS. Data representation in GIS. GIS-based map production approaches. Software, hardware and system selection in GIS. Application areas in GIS. GIS organizations. |
