Specific Admission Requirements
Entry into higher education in Turkey is through The YGS and LYS examinations. The ÖSYM receives all the applications, group the applications with respect to the score type (such as languages, literature, science, and social sciences), list them from the highest score to the lowest, list all the available degree programmes based on the demand for them, and places the students with sufficient scores to one of the selections they have made. Required document for registration: 1-High school diploma, 2-Obtaining the required grade from National University Entrance and Placement Exam (YGS-LYS)
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
Formal
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
The degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed all the courses in the curriculum including summer practices, with a CGPA of 2.00 out of 4.00.
Profile of The Programme
The goals of the department: are to graduate chemists who are able to demonstrate the ability of describing, explaining, applying, criticizing, deciding and teaching the basic principles of general chemistry and five sub-divisions (Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry).
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Graduates of different government agencies, as well as cement, sugar and rubber plants, pharmaceutical, textile and food industries, environmental and public health facilities, chemical products and laboratory equipment sales and service companies, and related fields of plastics and paint production industry qualified specialists in all branches of the sought-after.
Access to Further Studies
Bachelors degree owners with 70 National Academic and Graduate Entry Examination (ALES) score may apply to MSc program, or directly to PhD program with at least 3.2 (out of 4) academic average. MSc degree owners with 70 ALES and 60 language score (UDS, KPDS or equivalent) may apply to PhD program. The graduate programs are designed to lead MSc and PhD degrees in any branch of chemistry
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
The examination, assessment and grading regulations have been set up for the university by the University Senate and the Department of Chemistry is bound by these regulations. Each course is assessed via a midterm exam and a final end-of-term exam, with contributions of 40% and 60% respectively. The marking is made out of 100. Grades of 81-100 is assigned a letter grade of AA, 76-80 BA, 70-75 BB, 60-69 CB, 50-59 CC, 45-49 DC, 40-44 DD, 30-39 FD and 0-29 FF. The AA is the highest grade and has a grade credit of 4.00, BA 3.5, BB 3.0, CB 2.5, CC 2.0, DC 1.5, DD 1.0, FD 0.5 and FF 0.0. Grades of AA to CC are pass, FD to FF fail, DC and DD is conditional pass and requires a CGPA of at least 2.0 for that term. The details given for each course in the programme include the detailed assessment methods together with a description of the second mid-term exam. Each student must register for each course at the beginning of the each semester and attend at least 70% of the each lecture and 80% of each laboratory work in each semester in order to have the right to take the final exam of each theoretical/laboratory course. The midterm examinations and the final examination are done in the pre-scheduled times.
Graduation Requirements
To be able to secure the bachelor's degree in the field of Chemistry (and thus title of Chemist) the students are required to (a) have passed all courses in the curiculum with a grade of at least DC form, (b) have achieved a cumulative gross point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00, (c) prepared a graduation thesis, submitted and successfully defended with a passing grade
