General Description
History
The Department of English Language and Literature, which was opened within the framework of the Foreign Languages ​​Department, which was established in 2009, will start the student admission for the first time in the 2018-2019 academic year. In our department, a foreign professor, two Turkish citizens, Dr. The Faculty Member has a research assistant. The courses of the department are aimed at directing students to multidisciplinary work aimed at providing information in the fields of contemporary popular culture and critical theory as well as deep-rooted literary and cultural traditions. Students are subject to the preparatory program implemented by the Department of Foreign Languages, where they will have the opportunity to improve their English reading, listening, writing and speaking skills. All students enrolled in our department are required to take the Preparatory Program Exemption Exam.
Qualification Awarded
Students who successfully complete the program receive the title of “Philologist” with “Bozok University Faculty of Science and Letters Undergraduate Diploma”. The business area of ​​graduates of English Language and Literature will first emerge when our students determine in which field they will develop themselves and the profession they dream of. The vast majority of department graduates are employed as English teachers. For this reason, students who graduate from the program can become teachers in public schools, private schools and foreign language courses within the Ministry of Education; If they continue their postgraduate education at home or abroad, they will have the opportunity to work as academicians in a way that they can meet the demand of instructors in the field of English Language and Literature in Turkish universities. Graduates of the Department of English Language and Literature can also work in the field of translation. In our country, they will be able to find jobs in the fields requiring cultural and literary knowledge such as tourism sector and ministries, banks, media institutions affiliated to the state and the private sector, which have a high potential and qualified labor force, and may even be employed as writers and editors. In our country, our students who aim to work as teachers in state institutions, especially in public schools, are assigned to state institutions with 4062 qualification code by entering KPSS (Public Personnel Selection Exam).

Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
English language levels are expected to be at an advanced level in order for students starting the English Language and Literature undergraduate program to follow the courses and be successful in their studies. Students who have previously studied at another University and enrolled in the English Language and Literature undergraduate program may be exempted from certain courses if the content of the course taken at the university they are leaving is in line with the content of the course taught in the undergraduate program of English Language Education and approved by the Faculty Administrative Board.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
To achieve a bachelor degree in the field of English Langugae and Literature, students must complete all the lessons of the program (240 ECTS ) with success. The general weighted score average of the student must be at least 2.00.
Profile of The Programme
English Language and Lit. the Undergraduate Program consists of a total of 168 credits. Elective courses that constitute 25% of the curriculum are offered in each semester. Elective courses consist of three groups as compulsory elective and second language elective courses.

Access to Further Studies
Students with a Bachelor's Degree from our Program are elligible to become Master's and Ph.D. students after having obtained the required points from ALES (Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam) and after having certified their compatibility in the English language.

Facilities
English Language and Literature graduates find employment opportunities in these fields: several public institutions (Turkish radio and television corporation ,the ministry of foreign affairs, ministry of culture and tourism, ministry of national education etc..) publishing houses, tabloid magazines, literature and culture magazines, newspapers, movie studios ,international institutions, projects and institutions related with European Communities. By developing translation ss, graduates can work as an oral or document translator in some fields which have a special terminology such as medicine, architecture, economy, automotive, archeology, and law. They can also work in tourism sector. By maintaining pedagogical formation they can work as teacher in public and private schools. English language and Literature graduates can continue their work field by continuing their career on academic area (at a level of postgraduate and doctorate) at universities.

Analyzes, and produces verbal or written texts by using the acquired advanced knowledge and skills peculiar to English Language and Literature and interprets and didactically embodies the written or verbal texts produced before using the comparison method. 2 Translates equally from English to Turkish and Turkish to English with a grammar knowledge so good as to be able to translate and a language awareness. 3 Acquires basic knowledge and skills required to enable inter-cultural communication. 4 Comprehends the structural and functional features of languages via linguistics and establishes a healthy communication. 5 Learns analytical thinking and to ground thoughts with hermeneutics and interpretation techniques. 6 Makes self-evaluation and develops self-confidence. 7 Acquires basic professional knowledge related to learning field. 8 Develops native thoughts and works inter-disciplinary with a critical perspective. 9 Comprehends that learning process is a life-long awakening process and researches the subject on his/her own. 10 Organizes activities for social responsibility awareness and the social environment he/she lives in and applies these. 11 Acquires the skills of expressing himself/herself, presenting a subject scientifically in English and Turkish, and anticipating how the other party will perceive it.
