General Description

History | The Department of Art History in Yozgat Bozok University was established in 2009. In the 2018-2019 Academic Year, the Undergraduate Program was opened.
Undergraduate Program basically enables students to gain critical awareness of the environment they live in. Students gain the ability to classify and define artworks according to cultures, geographies, periods, materials and techniques, stylistic and iconographic features. Other technical and scientific objectives of the Undergraduate Program include the student’s ability to use information correctly by learning research methods effectively, to gain the ability to compile and transfer, and to learn to combine theory and practice. Within the scope of the mission of the Department of Art History, students are provided with the opportunity to recognize material cultural assets. In this context, it is expected that they will reach a level of consciousness that can generate ideas for the registration and protection of cultural assets in the professional business life they will be involved in in the future. Archeology, architecture, museology, history, literature, folklore etc. within the scope of the courses opened in the Art History Undergraduate Program, since it is a multidisciplinary field closely related to the fields; it is among the important outputs of our program that the students of the Art History department learn to make technical architectural drawing, archaeological finding drawing, ethnographic artefact evaluation and inventory.
Students enrolled in the undergraduate program have the opportunity to participate in archaeological excavations conducted by our Department and other Universities every year.
| Qualification Awarded | Art Historian | Level of Qualification (Short Cycle , First Cycle , Second Cycle, Third Cycle) | First Cycle | Specific Admission Requirements | For the submission to the Art History Department, it must be obtained the graduation of any high school, then, it must be obtained to the enough point of national university exam Group TS. | Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal) | If students who have been enrolled in another Higher Education University in Turkey or abroad, where they have previously studied, apply within the first week, their credit and grade transfer requests are evaluated by the board of directors of the relevant teaching unit and a decision is made to cover the entire education and for one time only. Students are exempt from the compulsory foreign language courses in their programs if they score 60 points out of 100 in the central foreign language exam administered by the University at the beginning of the academic year and get a grade of CC or above, which is considered equivalent to 60 in this exam. | Qualification Requirements and Regulations | For the submission to the Art History Department, it must be obtained the graduation of any high school, then, it must be obtained to the enough point of national university exam Group TS. | Profile of The Programme | In the discipline of Art History, art objects are examined chronologically according to geographies, civilizations, stylistic features, materials and techniques, and ornamental elements. Painting, sculpture, architecture, ceramics, furniture, weaving and other decorative objects are within the field of study of art history. Art history develops the skills of looking closely at art objects, identifying them and using historical sources systematically. Interpret the richness of the visual and historical culture surrounding human beings. It offers tools and vocabulary to build a historically grounded understanding of artistic production in various social and cultural fields. | Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples | The Ministry of Culture and Tourism, General Directorate of Museums, General Directorate of Foundations, Private Museums, art galleries, Municipal and Special Provincial Administration institutions and private companies employ art historians. In addition, graduating students have the opportunity to pursue an academic career. | Access to Further Studies | Students can apply to master's, doctoral or proficiency in art programs in any field. | Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading | Midterm, final exam, term papers and seminars | Graduation Requirements | The student must have passed all the courses in the program.
