INSTITUTE OF GRADUATE PROGRAMS - CHEMISTRY (M.A.) (WITH THESIS) - MASTER'S DEGREE

General Description
History
The Department of Chemistry has been providing education in the graduate program at the Institute of Science and Technology since 2007. There are 5 branches of science in the master's program: Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physical Chemistry and Organic Chemistry.
Qualification Awarded
Master's Degree in Chemistry
Level of Qualification (Short Cycle , First Cycle , Second Cycle, Third Cycle)
Second Cycle
Specific Admission Requirements
Faculties of Science/Science and Letters consist of Chemistry, Biochemistry, Departments of Chemistry, Environment, Metallurgy and Materials, Food, Nanotechnology, Polymer and Polymer Science, Polymer Technology, Polymer Engineering of Faculties of Engineering and Architecture, Departments of Chemistry and Science Teaching (Education) of Faculties of Education and Those who have a bachelor's degree from the Faculty of Pharmacy can apply. In order to apply, it is necessary to have taken the Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Examination (ALES) held in the last five years and to have received at least 55 points in the numerical score type from this exam. Undergraduate graduation GPA must be at least 2.00 out of 4.00 or equivalent. The evaluation score will be calculated by taking 60% of the ALES score + 40% of the undergraduate graduation grade. The success grade calculated in this way must be at least 50 points or above.
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
Students who have successfully completed at least one semester in another Institute department within the university or in the graduate program of another higher education institution (excluding the periods spent in scientific preparation) may be accepted through horizontal transfer. In order to transfer between graduate programs, students must have a GPA of at least 2.70 out of four. In order for courses taken from other graduate programs to be considered exempt; Those who are successful in the course(s) for which exemption is requested, without requiring at least a CB letter grade or its equivalent, may be considered exempt from these courses.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
To obtain a master's degree in chemistry, 60 ECTS courses, 2 compulsory and 6 elective, must be taken in at least two semesters and at least 60 ECTS of thesis and specialization studies must be completed in 2 semesters. In order for the student to be considered successful in the relevant course, this grade must have at least a CB letter grade. The student can re-register for the courses he/she failed, or can take other graduate courses approved by his/her advisor. The maximum time to successfully complete the required credit courses for the Master's program is four semesters. The student who cannot successfully complete the credit courses within this period will be dismissed from the Institute and University. The student who successfully completes the credit courses and whose thesis proposal is accepted, but cannot complete the thesis work by the end of six semesters, will be dismissed from the Institute.
Profile of The Programme
Within the master's program, master's degrees with thesis are offered in 5 branches of science: Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physical Chemistry and Organic Chemistry. The language of education is Turkish. Department of Chemistry; Educating graduate students who can carry out original research and development studies by internalizing the scientific approach, who know how to learn and teach, who have the knowledge and skills required in laboratory studies, who are contemporary, innovative and capable of scientific research, who contribute to the improvement of the quality of education with our graduate students who graduate from our department and It is a department that aims to contribute to science through thesis studies.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Our graduates who receive a Master's degree in Chemistry can work in many different fields of the public and private sectors such as pharmaceuticals, food, agriculture, health, military, petroleum, environment, automotive, plastics, paint, mining and in units involving laboratory applications. They can also take part in education and training activities as academicians in chemistry-related units of universities or participate in research groups as researchers. Students who successfully complete the program can apply to doctoral degree programs in the field of Chemistry or other branches of science that accept students from this field.
Access to Further Studies
Graduates who successfully complete the master's program can apply to doctoral programs both in their own field or in multidisciplinary fields, provided that they receive a valid score from the ALES exam and provide English language proficiency (at least 55 points), and are entitled to registration if they are successful in the interview exam.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
The course success grade is obtained by evaluating the student's success in studies such as midterm exams, practical studies, and assignments during the semester and the final exam. The student's success grade is calculated by adding up 40% of the midterm exam or the activities counted instead of this exam and 60% of the final exam score. The passing grade is at least CB. In addition, students who are successful in the seminar, specialization course and thesis study are eligible to graduate.
Graduation Requirements
Students graduate if they are successful in the compulsory courses Scientific Research Methods and Ethics and seminar courses, as well as 6 elective courses, specialization course and thesis studies (provided they take 120 ECTS courses in total) and have a GPA of at least 2.30 out of 4.00. They are entitled to be.
