History | History Department Master's Program was opened in 2008 -2009 Academic Year. History Department consists of 7 (seven) Sciences. These are the History of the Republic of Turkey, the Modern History, the Modern History, the Medieval History, the Ancient History, the General Turkish History, and the History of Ottoman Institutions and Civilization.
The objectives of the Department of History; To educate graduates who have the knowledge and skills to define, explain, apply, make decisions, and teach the basic principles of the science of history and carry all the powers and responsibilities provided by the laws. Analyzing the determined issues objectively and scientifically, having a good command of the methodology of the discipline of history, | Qualification Awarded | Master's Degree in History | Level of Qualification (Short Cycle , First Cycle , Second Cycle, Third Cycle) | Second Cycle | Specific Admission Requirements | 1-To have a bachelor's degree from the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Literature, Language-History and Geography, Social and Human Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences Faculties.
2-To have taken the Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Exam (ALES) held in the last five years and to get at least 55 points from the VERBAL score type from this exam.
3. Having a minimum score of 2.50 out of 4.00 or an equivalent score in the undergraduate graduation grade point average. The success score will be calculated by considering 60% of the 4.ALES score and 40% of the undergraduate graduation grade. The success grade calculated in this way must be at least 50 points | Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal) | The courses to be taken and exempted by the student whose lateral transfer is finalized are determined by the decision of the department of the department, the proposal of the head of the department and the decision of the Board of Directors of the Institute. | Qualification Requirements and Regulations | In order to obtain a master's degree in history, students must successfully complete all of the compulsory and elective courses in the program and obtain a weighted grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 in the GPA. | Profile of The Programme | There are 7 main branches within the Department which are History of Republic of Turkey, Contemporary History, History of Modern Ages, Medieval History, Ancient History, History of Turks, History of Ottoman Institutions and Civilization. The main objective of the Department of History is to raise students who are able to describe, explain, apply, analyze and teach fundamental principles of science of history within all privileges and responsibilities connected their qualification | Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples | The basic policy of the Department of History concerning employment is to raise well-equipped and curious historians who search phases of human history with scientific methods. In parallel with this objective, employment opportunities can be listed as follows:
Among the graduates of our department, those who meet the necessary criteria can continue their academic careers by working in positions such as Research Assistant, Lecturer and Lecturer; They can work as experts in many institutions such as TIKA, General Directorate of State Archives, Presidency for Turks Abroad, Turkish Historical Society, Atatürk Research Center, TBMM, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Turkish Red Crescent. | Access to Further Studies | Graduates who have successfully completed their master's education can study in doctoral programs, provided that they get a valid grade from the ALES exam and have sufficient foreign language knowledge. | Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading | Midterm exam: At least one midterm exam is given for each course. Final exam: The final exam for a course is given at the end of the semester in which that course is completed. The student who fulfills the attendance requirement for the course has to take the final exam for that course on the day and time determined by the department chair. The course success grade is obtained by evaluating the student's success in studies such as midterm exams, applied studies, homework, and the final exam together. The student's success grade is calculated by adding 40% of the midterm exam or the homework counted instead of this exam and 60% of the final exam score. In the calculation of these ratios, the fractions are preserved, but in the calculation of the success grade, the fractional numbers are rounded up to the nearest whole number. | Graduation Requirements | Master's programs with thesis consist of at least seven courses, a seminar, other learning activities and thesis work, provided that they are not less than 21 national credits and 120 ECTS credits.
