General Description
History
The Department of Archaeology continues to provide education in the Master's programme in the Graduate Institute since 2022. There are 3 disciplines within the Master's programme: Prehistoric Archaeology, Protohistory and Prehistory Archaeology, Classical Archaeology.

Specific Admission Requirements
-To have a bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Protohistory and Prehistoric Archaeology and Classical Archaeology, Art History, Anthropology, Ancient Greek Language and Literature, Latin Language and Literature, Hittitology, Museology, Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Assets and History from the faculties of Literature, Science and Letters, Humanities and Social Sciences; Architecture, Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Assets and Tourism Guidance from the faculties of Architecture and Engineering and Tourism. -To have taken the Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Examination (ALES) held in the last five years and to have at least 55 points from the Numerical, Verbal and Equal Weight score types. -To have an undergraduate graduation grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 or an equivalent score. -Success score will be calculated by taking into account 60% of the ALES score and 40% of the undergraduate graduation grade. -If the applications are more than the number of quotas announced, students will be recruited according to the ranking of success points.
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
Students who have successfully completed at least one semester in another Graduate School department within the University or in a graduate programme of another higher education institution (excluding the periods spent in scientific preparation) can be accepted by transfer. In order to be able to transfer between master's programmes, students must have a master's grade point average of at least 2.70 out of four. In order for the courses taken from other graduate programmes to be counted as exempt; those who are successful in the course(s) for which exemption is requested without seeking at least CB letter grade or equivalent can be exempted from these courses.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
In order to obtain a master's degree in the field of archaeology, it is necessary to take 60 ECTS courses, 2 compulsory and 6 elective courses in at least two semesters and to do at least 60 ECTS thesis and specialisation studies in 2 semesters thesis period. In order for the student to be considered successful in the relevant course, this grade must have at least CB letter grade. The student can re-register for the failed courses or take other graduate courses approved by his/her counsellor. The maximum time to successfully complete the credit courses required for the Master's programme is four semesters. Students who fail to successfully complete their credit courses within this period are dismissed from the Institute and the University. Students who successfully complete the credited courses and whose thesis proposal is accepted, but who fail to complete the thesis study by the end of six semesters are dismissed from the Graduate School.
Profile of The Programme
The Department of Archeology, affiliated to the Social Sciences Institute, provides 2-year master's education with thesis. The language of instruction of the courses given by the Department of Archeology and general culture courses is Turkish. The main aim of the MA program is to train individuals who are instructed to become professionals in a particular area in archaeology, who are well-equipped in this profession, have the ability to use modern technologies and to use their expertise in research, education and other services in archaeology for the benefit of the society within the boundary of universal values. Another important task of the program is to train competent archaeologists who have the ability to uncover, protect and exhibit unique cultural heritage of our country with modern and scientific methods.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
In addition to academic institutions, our graduates of the Master's Programme in Archaeology can work in the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, museums affiliated to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Regional Directorates for the Protection of Cultural and Natural Assets, Surveying Directorates, Conservation, Implementation and Inspection Offices (KUDEB) established within the municipality or Special Provincial Administration, Turkish Historical Society. Regional Directorates for the Protection of Cultural and Natural Assets, Directorates of Surveying, Conservation, Implementation and Inspection Bureaus (KUDEB) established within the Municipality or Special Provincial Administration, Archaeological excavations within the Turkish Historical Society, Engineering Companies preparing EIA reports, Private Museums, Mineral Research and Exploration Institute, Police Department (Crime Scene Investigation, Antiquities Smuggling Branches, etc.), Culture and Tourism Guides and Architecture offices can work as archaeologists.
Access to Further Studies
Graduates who have successfully completed the master's programme can apply to doctoral programmes in their own fields or in multidisciplinary fields, provided that they get the valid grade from the ALES exam, provide English language proficiency (at least 55 points) and if they are successful in the interview exam, they are entitled to register.

Facilities
Two classrooms and a drawing laboratory in Yozgat Bozok University Faculty of Arts and Sciences Block B have been allocated for the undergraduate and graduate programs of the Archeology Department. There is a projector in the classrooms and laboratory allocated to the department. The Archeology Laboratory is reserved for the use of undergraduate and graduate students to document archaeological finds for their scientific studies. The department laboratory has the capacity to serve students in terms of drawing materials. In the laboratory, there are suitable tables and chairs, as well as drawing tools (profile comb, soldering wire, scale ruler, etc.) for students to draw architectural, ceramics and small finds. In addition, there are devices such as level, laser meter and GPS, which are frequently used in field studies, and will be used for scientific studies of students both in the drawing laboratory and in the field. In addition, if needed, other laboratory facilities within our university will also be used.
