General Description
History
The doctoral program in Bozok University, Faculty of Science and Letters, Department of Biology started in the academic year of 2017-2018. It was established under the Institute of Natural and Applied Sciences and provides doctoral education in Botany, General Biology, Hydrobiology, Molecular Biology, and Zoology. Our department admits doctoral students to the quotas announced by the aforementioned departments at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters of each semester, in accordance with the admission and registration conditions determined by the Gratuate School.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
Doctorate and proficiency in arts students who have a master's degree in the relevant field before enrolling in the doctoral program must take and pass at least 8 courses, not less than 24 credits, in order to take the proficiency exam. Doctorate and proficiency in arts students who do not have a master's degree in the relevant field, on the other hand, have to take and succeed at least 16 courses, not less than 48 credits, in order to take the proficiency exam. Grade point average for graduation must be at least 2.5.
Profile of The Programme
There are five branches of science in the Department: General Biology, Botany, Zoology, Hydrobiology and Molecular Biology. The main goal of the Department of Biology is to train graduates who have the knowledge and skills to define, explain, apply, make decisions, and teach the basic principles of Biology, as a biology doctorate graduate who has all the powers and responsibilities provided by the laws.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Individuals who successfully graduate from the doctoral program can work in Laboratories, Pharmaceutical Marketing, Food Industry, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Affairs, Ministry of Environment and similar organizations; Biologists, Teachers, Technical Staff, Research and Development (R&D), Production, Quality Control, Quality Assurance and Sales and Marketing, in schools and private schools under the Ministry of National Education, private teaching institutions, research institutions, organizations under the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. They can be employed in a wide range of jobs.
Access to Further Studies
Graduates who successfully complete the PhD program in the Department of Biology can apply for an academic position, post-doctoral education (post-doctoral research) or an expert position in research centers in public institutions in the same or similar fields in the country or abroad.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
In the Biology Department doctorate program, the student must attend the courses he has taken and get a passing grade from the midterm and final exams to be held by the lecturer. Students are subjected to at least one midterm and final exam for each course. The contribution of the midterm exam to the success grade is 40% and the contribution of the final exam is 60%. All exams are evaluated over 100 points. Students who get one of the letter grades (AA, 90-100), (BA, 85-89), (BB, 80-84), (CB, 75-79) and (CC, 70-74) in a course are considered successful in that course. The seminar course and thesis work are non-credit and evaluated as successful or unsuccessful. The student who completes the doctoral thesis study takes the thesis exam. The doctoral thesis exam consists of the presentation of the thesis work and the following question and answer section. After the completion of the thesis exam, the jury decides to accept, reject or correct the thesis with absolute majority. The student who is successful in the thesis exam is entitled to receive a PhD diploma.
Graduation Requirements
To be successful in the field of specialization, the number of doctoral courses in the Department specified in the curriculum, and the proficiency exam. To have completed the thesis proposal and thesis work. It is obligatory for the student to write the results of his/her thesis in accordance with the thesis writing rules of the relevant institute and to defend his/her thesis orally in front of the jury. After the thesis exam is completed, the jury decides to accept, reject or correct the thesis with absolute majority. The student, whose thesis is decided to be corrected, must defend his thesis again in front of the same jury by doing the necessary within six months at the latest, and if he is successful, he has to print the thesis.

Facilities
There are four classrooms and two laboratories that students can use for theoretical and applied courses. There are also four research laboratories with high-tech equipment for the use of postgraduate students.
