INSTITUTE OF GRADUATE PROGRAMS - CHEMISTRY (PHD) -

General Description
History
The Department of Chemistry has been providing education in the doctoral program at the Institute of Science and Technology since 2017. There are 5 branches of science in the doctoral program: Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physical Chemistry and Organic Chemistry.
Qualification Awarded
PhD degree in Chemistry
Level of Qualification (Short Cycle , First Cycle , Second Cycle, Third Cycle)
Third Cycle
Specific Admission Requirements
Those who have completed a master's degree with thesis in the Institute's Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Chemistry Teaching (Education) Department/Program can apply. In order to apply, it is necessary to have taken the Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Examination (ALES) held in the last five years and to have received at least 55 points in the numerical score type from this exam. The master's degree graduation grade point average must be at least 2.50 out of 4.00 or equivalent. The evaluation grade will be calculated by taking into account 50% of the ALES score, 20% of the thesis master's graduation grade, and 30% of the scientific evaluation exam grade (oral). Candidates whose evaluation result is below 60 points or whose scientific evaluation exam score is below 50 points despite having a score of 60 points or above are considered unsuccessful. Post-graduate and basic medicine with thesis In applications to doctoral programs in sciences, candidates must have at least 55 points from international foreign language exams accepted as equivalent to central foreign language exams accepted by YÖK, other than their mother tongue, or an equivalent score from international foreign language exams accepted as equivalent by ÖSYM.
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
Students who have successfully completed at least one semester in another Institute department within the university or in the graduate program of another higher education institution (excluding the periods spent in scientific preparation) may be accepted through horizontal transfer. In order to transfer between graduate programs, students must have a GPA of at least 2.95 out of four. In order for courses taken from other graduate programs to be considered exempt; Those who are successful in the course(s) for which exemption is requested, without requiring at least a BC letter grade or its equivalent, may be considered exempt from these courses.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
For students accepted with a thesis master's degree, a total academic semester consists of at least 240 ECTS credits, including at least 7 courses, seminar course, field of expertise course, qualifying exam, thesis proposal and thesis study, provided that it is not less than 60 ECTS. . For students accepted with a bachelor's degree, it consists of a total of at least 300 ECTS credits, including fourteen courses, seminar, qualifying exam, thesis proposal and thesis study. Students accepted to the doctoral program with a bachelor's degree can take a maximum of ten of the fourteen courses they are required to take in the first two semesters. Seminars held by a doctoral student and courses that the student is successful in during undergraduate and graduate education are not counted towards the doctoral course load and credits. Undergraduate courses do not count towards course load and doctoral credits. The maximum period for successfully completing the required credit courses for the doctoral program is four semesters for those accepted with a master's degree with thesis and six semesters for those accepted with a bachelor's degree. The student who cannot successfully complete the credit courses within this period will be dismissed from the Institute and University. The student who successfully completes the credit courses, is successful in the qualifying exam and whose thesis proposal is accepted, but cannot complete the thesis work by the end of twelve or fourteen semesters will be dismissed from the Institute.
Profile of The Programme
Within the doctoral program, doctoral education is provided in 5 branches of science: Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physical Chemistry and Organic Chemistry. The language of education is Turkish. Department of Chemistry; Educating graduate students who can carry out original research and development studies by internalizing the scientific approach, who know how to learn and teach, who have the knowledge and skills required in laboratory studies, who are contemporary, innovative and capable of scientific research, who contribute to the improvement of the quality of education with our graduate students who graduate from our department and It is a department that aims to contribute to science through thesis studies.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
The global nature of the chemical industries offers career opportunities in Turkey, Europe and elsewhere. According to their personal interests and preferences, our graduates can work in many fields such as research and development, design, production, marketing, after-sales services and project development. Our graduates can find employment opportunities in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), large-scale companies and multinational companies that have laboratories. They can also pursue an academic career by enrolling in related doctoral programs at universities in Turkey and abroad. Graduates of the Chemistry Doctorate program can take part in national and international projects and R&D activities. They can work as teaching staff in higher education institutions.
Access to Further Studies
Since this program is the highest degree program in education, there is no upper degree program transition status.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
The course success grade is obtained by evaluating the student's success in studies such as midterm exams, practical studies, and assignments during the semester and the final exam. The student's success grade is calculated by adding up 40% of the midterm exam or the activities counted instead of this exam and 60% of the final exam score. The passing grade is at least BC. In addition, students who are successful in the seminar, proficiency study, specialization course and thesis study are eligible to graduate.
Graduation Requirements
In addition to the compulsory courses Scientific Research Methods and Ethics and seminar courses, students are successful in 6 elective courses, proficiency study, specialization course and thesis studies (provided they take 240 ECTS courses in total) and have a GPA of at least 2.70 out of 4.00. If they are successful, they are eligible to graduate.
